Sustainable Development Goals Game:

Description of the game: On Friday, the 8th of November, the Year 1 students of ITEps will get the opportunity to play the "2030 SDG's Game" with the help of two facilitators from the Netherlands and students. The game actively engages the students in the 17 sustainable development goals and connects it to real-life problems, focusing on social, economic and environmental aspects. It is a very informative introduction to the goals and helps students to get an overview of the 17 goals and how they are connected to one another. To find out more about the game, click here.

NADINE BERGMANN

Hi everyone! My name is Nadine Bergmann and I am one of the 2030 SDG game facilitators. For the last two years, I have been working at MDF Training & Consultancy, an international organisation focusing on management advice, training, evaluations and implementing projects in the field of international development. Next to my work as a game facilitator, I have been strongly involved with developing learning trajectories and evaluations with a learning focus. My interest in learning has always been there, whether it's about how others learn as well as learning myself. With a background in Environmental Sciences and Education for Sustainability, I am specifically passionate about promoting learning in order to contribute to a more sustainable world. I hope your experience with the 2030 SDGs game can also contribute to this!

SAM BOERING

Sam has worked across the globe in the field of capacity development in the context of international development co-operation. He has lived and worked for 13 years abroad in South America (Colombia and Bolivia) and Asia (Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the Philippines), working in the field of natural resources management and rural development. Since 2001 he works with MDF Training and Consultancy, providing capacity development support to persons and organizations working in the field of international development co-operation, e.g. with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FNV (Dutch Trade Union Federation, but also organizations like Liliane Foundation (children with a disability). All this work is about making sure that these persons and organizations can bring about good and meaningful change. Since earlier this year (2019) he is a certified 2030 SDG game facilitator. Why? Because we have to change together and make sure we all “contribute to a more sustainable world”. We only have one world in which we can live!

Khaled

Workshop by Khaled Emam on 'Human rights in the middle east':

About Khaled Emam:

If you are a year 3 or year 4+ student, you don’t want to miss out on the programme for Friday! We have a very special visitor coming to Meppel for one sole workshop: Khaled Emam, human rights lawyer and educator from the middle east. Khaled is the director of a human rights organisation, which is part of the network GPPAC (Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict). Throughout the last years, he has been involved in peace-building projects and events around the world, holding workshops on social justice and human rights. As he is currently working at the University of Groningen, we were able to reach out to him and are now incredibly lucky to announce this workshop, taking place on Friday, the 8th of November, from 9:30-11:00.

During his workshop, all participant will discuss, explore and reflect on human rights in the specific context of the middle east. At the centre of the workshop is the interaction and correlation between justice (human rights) and the conflicts in this area.

The number of participants is limited, so sign up for this workshop as fast as you can and get ready for an authentic and utterly valuable learning experience.

Movies that matter: Documentary 'The wait' (2016) by Emil Langballe

In 2010 Rokhsar and her family fled Afghanistan because they were afraid of the Taliban and after six months of illegal border crossing through Europe they ended up in Denmark where they sought asylum. Nevertheless, the Danish immigration authorities doubt their story and the fact that they will be persecuted if they return to Afghanistan which means that they have been denied asylum several times. Now they are staying in Denmark illegally and can be deported any time.

Before the conference ends, the participants will be engaged in two reflective activities.

Except for the year 1 students, everyone will be joining the dialogues tables, where groups are presented with statements connected to the topic of human rights and citizenship education and write their thoughts on the poster as well as discuss their ideas in a group.

As the last activity for the conference, everyone will participate in a so-called Gallery Walk. The products from the previous days as well as in formations about the workshops will be given and all participants as asked to move around the main building and the design factory to give comments and feedback. The gallery walk gives an overview of what has been discussed during the conference and which topics might still be more contestant than others.
